Little presses are small-scale publications produced by individuals or small publishers. The biggest difference between them and zines is whether they prioritize "free expression" or "publishing activities." This comparison table summarizes their characteristics and explains why there isn't a clear boundary between them.

There is no clear boundary between zines and doujinshi (self-published works); the biggest difference lies not in the form of the work, but in "which culture and which venue it is presented in." We will organize the differences in their origins and characteristics in a comparison table and introduce how to think about which category your own work should be classified as.

There's no set size for zines, but A5 (148 x 210 mm) is recommended for beginners. This article explains the dimensions and characteristics of A5, B6, A6, B5, and square sizes, their relationship to paper sizes when creating at home or at a convenience store, and key points to consider when choosing.

This guide explains the process of creating a zine in seven steps. From choosing a theme, determining the number and size of pages, designing the pages, printing and binding, to selling and distributing, it introduces key points for completing your first zine and provides five pieces of advice for beginners.

There are no strict rules regarding the number of pages in a zine, but 16 to 24 pages is recommended for first-timers. This guide explains why saddle-stitched zines should have multiples of 4 pages, how to determine the number of pages based on the content, and provides an example of a 16-page zine layout, all geared towards beginners.

The theme of your zine doesn't have to be anything special. We'll introduce ideas for themes that are easy for beginners to start with, such as exploring cafes, taking photos while walking, and finding inspiration from "things you like," "things you already own," and "everyday life."

There are no fixed genres for ZINEs. This guide introduces the characteristics of representative genres such as photography, illustration, essays, design, travel, and hobbies, along with examples of works published in ZINEs. We also explain which genre is best to start with if you're a beginner.
